Hats off to cartoonist Hoff
Gary Hoff’s cartoon (Tribune-Herald, July 2) of Doug Adams and the Yummet machine is a classic and deserves a place in cartoon history.
His irony is perfect. Not critical of Doug. Not critical of Yummet. But recognizing the irony in the situation in which Doug has to stand in front of the County Council and say, “I can’t tell you how.”
Please pass my congratulations to Gary. And maybe we should learn the lesson here and encourage the council toward legislation that forbids officials doing county business from signing nondisclosure agreements.

Animal Control not working
Someone dropped off five cats down the street at a vacant house. Now they are causing problems in the neighborhood.
I left two messages and called numerous times, and just get the same recording from Animal Control.
I want to give a shout out to my friend Dave Kisor for the humane trap. So, where do I take the cats to?
The sanctuaries are full. I know no one wants to euthanize them, and I understand that. I don’t either. I really appreciate all the people who are trying to do something about the problem, but they seem to be overwhelmed. They can’t even return phone calls from Animal Control.
A new agency is not going to fix this. Even with record tax money, the county cannot hire people because housing cost are too high for the workers.
Suck it up, folks. Get real. I will catch the cats and hope you contact me as to where you are located and deliver them to you. Hopefully, you have a place on this side of the island to take them. Or would you rather I do the irresponsible thing and take them and dump them in someone else’s neighborhood?
How about a Cat Day? You come to Puna, and we will deliver all the cats to you, and that will save time and money and staffing. And these traps are recyclable, so I can continue helping with the solution, too.
We have a cat, and I love animals, but when these cats come into the yard and attack our cat, I have to act. And our cat is fixed and 11 years old and no threat.
Kudos to all the volunteers all over the island who are spending so much of their time trying to find homes for the cats and trying to keep them from starving.

‘More relevant humor,’ please
In another shameless attempt to throw red meat to the far right, (the June 22) political cartoon about Hunter Biden’s plea deal for possession of a firearm is sad commentary on what’s important today to the Republican Party.
This is all you got?
In the future, let’s hope that your usually decent newspaper will choose cartoonists with more relevant humor than Dana Summers, who goes for the low blow by appeasing the right’s fake talking points.
